The Panama Maritime Authority conducted their first “Isthmic Transshipment” operation amid COVID-19 which consists of 91 crewmembers of about 25 nationalities onboard the Carnival Miracle Cruise, in efforts to repatriate the crew to their home.
Accordingly, Minister of Maritime Affairs, Arch. Noriel Araúz carried out an inspection, adding that these crew members are healthy and that since they entered their waters, at the beginning of last May, they have been monitored on a daily basis by the doctors on board, supervised by MINSA, in coordination with the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) and the National Migration Service (SNM), in compliance with strict biosecurity protocols, without jeopardizing the sanitary integrity of the country.
It is further stated that from the beginning of the pandemic the Authority has been able to embark and disebark crew members based on protocols and has contributed so that almost 4,000 people – both passengers and crew – from various nations and from different types of ships can safely return to their homes, in addition to Panamanian seafarers accessing job opportunities.
