The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) announced the appointment of two new members to its Advisory Board. Together, the new members bring a breadth of experience in shipping, sustainability, and infrastructure, mirroring key priorities for the waterway.
The Advisory Board was founded in 1999 at the time of the transfer of the Canal to Panamanian administration. The members of the Advisory Board provide strategic counsel to the ACP and the Board of Directors on various important issues that relate to the management and administration of the Canal including finances, insurance, operations and permanent modernization.
The new Advisory Board members are:
#1 Eman Abdalla, Global Operations Director at Cargill
With more than 20 years of experience in the maritime and logistics industry, Eman Abdalla currently leads the global operations of Cargill’s Ocean Transportation Business Unit, overseeing a fleet of over 700 vessels. She is also responsible for the company’s sustainability agenda and efforts to advance the environmental and social responsibility of the maritime sector through the Sea Cargo Charter and ZeroNorth.

#2 Han Kyu Lim, Professor at the Woosong Convergence Technology Research Center at the University of Woosong
Han Kyu Lim has served as Executive Vice President at the Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation, supporting the financing and development of infrastructure projections around the world. He held similar leadership roles at SK Engineering & Construction and SK Chemicals for more than 15 years.
In related news, the Panama Canal Authority announced the appointment of Ilya Espino de Marotta as the first Chief Sustainability Officer for the Panama Canal and Deputy Administrator in the previous months. She shared her priorities for addressing climate change challenges in an exclusive interview with SAFETY4SEA. As she explained, the Canal has always focused on sustainability; however, it now embarks on a new and more ambitious era, taking action with investments and collaborations to ‘thrive in a new climate economy.’
