Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG) has made a three-year pledge totaling nearly $90,000 to support women at Fort Schuyler through the official club, Women of Maritime (WOM).
OSG’s President and CEO, Sam Norton, discussed the mariner shortage with RADM Alfultis and expressed an interest in building a stronger pipeline of female licensed mariners.

Sam Norton also stated that undoubtedly, increasing the number of women in the maritime community benefits the entire industry. He noted that OSG values diversity, and they are committed to training and hiring the next generation of female merchant marines.
The official WOM club was established by female cadets during the 2022 Summer Sea Term to support women at Fort Schuyler. Through their pledge, OSG will provide two scholarships per year to commercial ship training with OSG; funding for WOM members to attend national conferences; mentoring; and provide speakers to campus events.
In their June 14 press release, OSG noted that through partnerships with organizations like SUNY Women of Maritime and Women Offshore, OSG believes that industry-wide action will achieve a better balance of diversity and enhance maritime culture.
