On 20 June 2019, an Ocean Network Express (ONE) operated vessel, the ‘NYK Eagle’, took part in a combined rescue operation, rescuing 6 crew members from a sinking coastal vessel in the Eastern Gulf of Aden.
‘NYK Eagle’ participated in the operation, which also involved Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and regional Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres. The ship managed to safely rescue 6 crew members from a sinking coastal vessel in the Eastern Gulf of Aden.
As ONE informed, ‘NYK Eagle’ was navigating the ocean when it received a request from CMF to help a small coastal vessel which was sinking, as ‘NYK Eagle’ was closest to the vessel in question.
After the request, the vessel conducted a thorough and cautious rescue approach on the small sinking coastal vessel, eventually rescuing 6 crew members. Moreover, 2 other crew members were airlifted by the Japan Navy helicopter and were transported to the Japan Naval.
After the rescue operation, ‘NYK Eagle’ sailed to Djibouti to disembark the 6 crew members on 22 June 2019 and continued its sea passage to Rotterdam.
