The US Coast Guard announced that one person has lost its life and three others were medevaced, when their vessel struck a barge near Bayou Segnette, Louisiana, on Sunday, 19 of October.
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report at 4:15 a.m., that a 22-foot recreational vessel with four passengers aboard collided with a barge, veered off and then ran aground, resulting in one of the passengers being ejected off the vessel.
The barge launched a small boat to assist and they recovered the ejected individual and brought them to emergency services.
Watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew at 5:33 a.m. Jefferson Sheriff’s Parish Office and Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries crews also responded.
The MH-65 aircrew arrived on scene at 6:18 a.m. and medevaced three of the passengers to West Jefferson Medical Hospital.
One of the passengers is confirmed deceased and three others were reported in serious and critical conditions, USCG reported.
