An oil tanker experienced a collision with an offshore breakwater while departing Kaohsiung Harbor, prompting its return for repairs on 8th June.
According to the Kaohsiung Port office of Taiwan International Ports Corporation, the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) oil tanker, named TONG YUN, departed Kaohsiung Second Harbor at 1:10 pm but collided with the offshore embankment during its exit. The starboard side of the vessel suffered significant damage, as did the concrete breakwater.
An initial inspection of the 182-meter-long, 28,000-tonne ship revealed no oil leakage, and the crew requested emergency entry permission before returning to port at 6:00 pm.
As a precautionary measure for environmental safety, oil booms were deployed around the ship, and personnel were dispatched to monitor its condition.
The cause of the incident is currently being investigated by the Transportation Safety Committee of the Port Bureau.
As informed, a damage assessment indicated no structural breach of the cargo hull.
