A nuclear fuel carrier ran aground last week off Sweden.The M/S Sigrid had no dangerous cargo aboard and was on its way into the harbor outside the Barseback nuclear plant whose reactors were closed in 1999 and 2005.
The Specialized nuclear fuel carrier Sigrid ran aground at around 0830 LT Apr 8 in Salviken, Barseback, Sweden, Oresund. The Swedish Maritime Administration said that there was there’s no nuclear cargo on board. The vessel grounded on a sand bank. There weren’t reported any damages reported. There were no reports of leakages from the ship, nor had the hull been damaged. A pilot was onboard the M/S Sigrid when it ran aground.
The cause of the grounding remains unknown, the government agency said.
