Japan Ship Owners’ Mutual Protection & Indemnity Association informed that it is not safe to anchor or drift loosely in the Eastern portion of Singapore Strait.
Namely, the association obtained new information about the vessels being detained in the Eastern portion of the Singapore Strait.
It seems that vessels are being detained that are drifting, a practice earlier thought to be safer in the circumstances,
than anchoring.
….as Japan Ship Owners’ explains.
In order to avoid detention, as advised earlier, given the uncertainty of the Territorial claims and enforcement of same in both Indonesia and Malaysia, it is simply not safe to anchor or drift in the area loosely.
If vessels are detained unfortunately, note that attempts to provide security to enable release have been unsuccessful, as a P&I Insurer’s Letter of Undertaking for example, is not deemed acceptable security.
