The NorthStandard Club warns to avoid for the time being the ports situated in the South of Lebanon such as Sidon, Tyre, Jieh and Zahrani oil terminals and provides updates on the ports that are now operating normally and safely (security level 1).
According to the Ministry of Transport, ALL Lebanese ports are operating normally and safely (security level 1). The Club recommends operators to keep in close contact with their local ship’s agents who will provide them with all requested info on a daily basis, as is being done by all shipowners whose vessels are calling at Lebanese ports.
Furthermore, the Club advises that all embassies are still operating in Lebanon and owners may approach their own authorities for official info.
The following ports operate in Security level 1:
- Beirut
- Zouk
- Jounieh
- Amchit
- Selaata
- Chekka
- Tripoli
Ports typically operate under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, which outlines three security levels: Security Level 1 (Normal Security), Security Level 2 (Heightened Security), Security Level 3 (Exceptional Security).
Security Level 1 represents normal security, serving as the baseline where the risk of a security incident is considered low, and standard security measures are in place. Security Level 2 is activated in response to an increased risk, prompting the implementation of additional security measures to safeguard against potential threats. Finally, Security Level 3 is invoked when there is a known or probable imminent threat of a security incident, necessitating the enforcement of the most stringent security measures to prevent any potential breaches. This structured approach enables ports to effectively manage and respond to varying security risks.
