The US Coast Guard rescued nine people from the water on Thursday after their boat began sinking and capsized near Hen and Chickens Reef. The crew of the boat notified the USCG that their boat is taking on water. USCG saved all nine, while no injuries were reported.
The crew of the 19-foot boat contacted US Coast Guard Station Islamorada watchstanders, informing them that they were taking on water and were in need of emergency assistance.

Watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Station Islamorada 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement boatcrew to assist.
The SPC-LE boatcrew arrived at the scene of the incident, embarked all nine people and transferred them to Smuggler’s Cove Resort and Marina with no reported injuries.
Salvage arrangements were made by the capsized boat’s rental company to tow the boat ashore.
As USCG informed, the rescued were:
- Shawn Zimmerman, 47;
- Joy Zimmerman, 46;
- Amber Zimmerman, 19;
- Jasmine Henriquez, 49;
- Misael Henriquez, 46;
- Four children.
