A Nigerian shipowner denied reports indicating that six crew members died in an unexplained accident on a tanker off Lagos.
We remind that at the beginning of the week, reports emerged indicating the deaths of the unidentified seafarers, while local media said that the deaths were confirmed by Nigerian authorities.
According to information, the “Halima” was undergoing tank cleaning work at the time, thus raising the possibility of asphyxiation as a cause.
Furthermore, a statement from the Nigerian Navy vessel Beecroft confirmed that it received a distress call from the ship. The Navy analyzed the tanker’s coordinates and discovered it was positioned southwest of the Lagos Fairway Buoy, thus sending out a rescue party.
However, the vessel owner, Red Star Oil & Gas, stated that there had been no fatalities, without revealing more details of exactly what happened on the ship.
