Bonny Gas Transport Limited (BGT), a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), has chartered an LNG carrier vessel named AKTORAS from Capital Gas Limited to bolster its shipping capabilities and reduce environmental impact.
As informed, AKTORAS boasts advanced MEGA propulsion systems, enhancing efficiency while minimizing emissions. With a capacity of 174,000 m3, length of 299 meters, and a deadweight of 81,451 tons, the vessel promises increased operational efficiency and sustainability. Furthermore, the vessel is equipped with an energy saving devices such as an air lubrication system, and shaft generators.
The ceremonial ship naming event in Mokpo, South Korea, attended by key figures including Ambassador Ferdinard Nwonye, the Nigerian Head of Mission at the Nigerian Embassy in South Korea; Dr. Philip Mshelbila, Executive Vice President of BGT and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NLNG; Olakunle Osobu, Deputy Director of NLNG; and Abdulkadir Ahmed, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML).
Dr. Mshelbila hailed the charter as a transformative step towards decarbonization and a sustainable future, emphasizing NLNG’s commitment to meeting global demand for clean energy solutions.
Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on Energy, highlighted the vessel’s role in representing Nigeria on the global stage and praised BGT and NLNG’s commitment to adapting and excelling in the evolving energy landscape. She emphasized the importance of innovation and progress in maintaining competitiveness in the LNG market.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Ferdinand Nwonye, representing Nigeria, urged Hyundai Heavy Industries to invest in a shipyard in Nigeria, citing the country’s strategic location and abundant labor force.
AKTORAS will be operated by NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML), further solidifying BGT and NLNG’s dedication to a sustainable, low-carbon future.
