This study is based on reports from seafarers and seafarer advocacy groups, stating that mental health is a major concern, along with the fact that research in this field is has many gaps.
The study also wants to advance the mental health burden in seafarers, limit stigma around mental illness, identify risks for depression and anxiety, and provide recommendations to improve the shipping environment regarding mental health support.
The survey will also examine factors around seafarer mental health, like the work environment and job tasks. It is anonymous, does not ask any identifying information, and takes about 10 minutes to complete.
