Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) has announced plans to establish ship recycling and dismantling facilities using advanced green technologies.
These yards will focus on sustainable ship breaking practices, extracting reusable materials while aligning with modern environmental standards. According to Mahna Musa bin Baqer, Director General of Ports, the MTCIT oversees Oman’s maritime sector to ensure compliance with international security standards and enhance port efficiency, Muscat Daily reports.
As part of these efforts, the ministry is conducting an economic feasibility study for the proposed recycling centres and prioritising the development of Shannah and Masirah ports through private sector involvement, with completed tourist facilities already operational at Shannah Port.
Additionally, plans are underway to establish a yacht dock in Quriyat, with a site in Daghmar designated for investment via public auction.
