The Port of Helsinki inaugurated the construction of a new upper ramp for the Katajanokka terminal, that will speed up vehicle boarding, resulting to a less time for passengers travelling by car. The new ramp will be used by Viking Line’s XPRS fast ferry.
Specifically, according to the port’s statement, the project is expected to be completed in the middle of June.
The ramp will enable the fast loading and unloading of vehicles on the XPRS by about 15 minutes.

Terminal Manager Tom Kotka from Viking Line commented that this upgrade is of a big importance to the port, as it will improve the passengers’ experience.
He continued that the ramp will contribute to a more efficient loading and unloading. In other words, up to now, the passenger car deck, is unloaded via the lower cargo deck with the help of an internal ramp.
The new ramp will enable the unloading of the cargo from the lower deck and passenger cars from the upper deck simultaneously.
The Port of Helsinki has invested approximately 1 million euros in the new ramp.
The construction of the new ramp will first require the shortening of the passenger corridor at ferry berth EK7, and the necessary demolition has already been completed.
Finally, the new ramp will be constructed by Lohkoasennus Oy.
