A group of six Nordic industry companies has formed a partnership to develop new infrastructure for green fuels for ships. The initiative is called Zero Emission Energy Distribution at Sea (ZEEDS) and consists of Wärtsilä, Equinor, DFDS, Kvaerner, Aker Solutions, and Grieg Star.
Commenting on the collaboration, Cato Esperø, Sales Director, Marine division, Nordics and Baltics, Wärtsilä, said that ZEEDS recognises that in order to achieve a transition to cleaner fuel, a collective effort is necessary. He explained that the collaboration believes that it can be successful in this attempt by addressing the supply, storage and distribution chain.

Via the ZEEDS-project the partners have analyzed possible solutions together, and the most promising ideas will be presented in Oslo at Future Innovation Day – Horizons on June 3rd and during Nor-Shipping on June 4th.
We are excited to share our ideas and even more importantly get feedback on how we can further develop and improve
Mr. Esperø said.
In the future, the focus will shift on engaging the relevant authorities and new partners to make sure that further development of the concept and the ideas is taking place.
In order to develop a sustainable solution to this challenge, we, as a society have to work together. In saying that we need the support from authorities and are calling for them to implement incentives that will enable us to find the fastest route to zero emission shipping
Cato Esperø concluded.
