Piraeus Port Authority announced that a new floating dock is expected to begin operations for ships, starting from November 2017. The dock supplements the existing infrastructure, aiming to attract more ships to the Perama Ship Repair Zone from the wider Mediterranean region and to create new working positions.
In particular, the floating dock will have a carrying capacity of 80,000 tons, length of 240m, inner breadth of 35m, lifting capacity of 22,000 tons and full crane equipment.
Moreover, PPA informed that the extensive repair of the Perama floating dock “Piraeus I” was completed on June 22nd. Upon its completion, all four existing docks are in full operation after the extensive maintenance works and all relevant permissions and certifications acquired by the responsible organization Hellenic Register of Shipping.
“Piraeus I” floating dock has a carrying capacity up to 40,000 tons, while “Piraeus II” floating dock up to 7,000 tons. Large dry dock in Akti Vasiliadi for ships has a carrying capacity up to 15,000 ton and the small dry dock in Akti Vasiliadi for ships up to 3,000 tons.
