French shipbuilder STX France unveiled a new sailing cruise ship concept that could respond to environmental challenges, by reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions. The SILENSEAS project is supported by the French Agency for the Environment and Energy Management.
The concept foresees a passenger vessel with a length of 190 meters and 150 cabins, capable to offer an eco-friendly cruise experience. Compared to the older generation, SOLIDSAIL, this concept’s hybrid-electric propulsion, associated with an optimized electrical plant, aims to reduce 25% the total fuel consumption of the ship, saving more than 2,500 tons of fuel per year, and 7,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
