Yilport announced the construction of a new sixth dock at Puerto Bolivar port in Ecuador. The work would require an investment of $176m, while the construction is set to start at the end of the year.
The new lock will be 450-metres long, and will enable the entry of ships of greater depth and capacity. This aims to diversify new lines of export to boost the local economy and foreign trade for Ecuado.
The port expansion also regards new container yards, refrigerated warehouse and new access roads.
Currently, Puerto Bolivar manages 65% of the province’s export banana cargo. In March 2020, about 36,000 tonnes of copper concentrate were exported to China for the first time.
