Global Energy Overseas and Singapore Methanol have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing bio-methanol as a sustainable bunker fuel.
This collaboration intends to establish bio-methanol as a commercially viable, eco-friendly alternative to traditional marine fuels, aligning with global goals for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and meeting regulatory standards on carbon intensity. Under the MoU, both companies will pool resources and expertise on several initiatives. These include:
- developing green methanol storage and distribution infrastructure,
- managing compliance with the EU’s FuelEU Maritime regulations,
- and exploring advanced low-emission marine fuels.
Charles Shang, CEO of Singapore Methanol, emphasized that the partnership positions Singapore as a key player in the green methanol market, contributing to the shift toward sustainable fuels. Meanwhile, Loh Hong Leong, Managing Director of Global Energy Overseas, added that the collaboration reflects a commitment to providing innovative, low-carbon solutions for the shipping sector, further cementing Singapore’s leadership as the world’s largest bunkering hub with growing demand for green fuels.
