RMI Marine Safety Advisory No 31-14
The Republic of the Marshall Islands has issued Marine Safety Advisory No 31-14 to advisethat the Director General of Shipping for the Government of India has issued M. S. Notice No. 4 of 2014 regarding vessels operating in the vicinity of Indian Offshore Development Areas (ODAs).
The Notice delineates the parameters of the ODAs, the causes of concern due to vessel drifting and the actions that will be taken by Defense Personnel if a vessel does not comply with the provisions of the Notice.
It is pertinent to highlight that a vessel drifting, particularly during the adverse weather condition, near ODA, could jeopardize the safety of the platforms, in case of a machinery failure or bavigation error.
In M.S. Notice No.4 2914 it is noted that the AIS should be kept “switched on” at all times except in situation where keeping the AIS “switched on”, may endanger the safety of the vessels. In such case the flag administration of the vessel and the coastal state may be suitably informed.
