Every year, as part of the Jeanne-d’Arc mission, third-year students of the Naval School gather humanitarian cargo, sportswear, school materials, medicines, toys and books, that the distribute during a journey around the world.
This year, the association includes of six cadets, who have just started the 17th edition of the fundraising campaign. In 2018, over five tons of humanitarian cargo were given in the countries visited.
The Jeanne D’Arc mission is an annual deployment that the French Navy ships conduct over a five-month period.
The 2018 edition was conducted by Mistral-class amphibious assault ship Dixmude and La Fayette-class frigate FS Surcouf.
The departure of the Jeanne-d’Arc 2019 mission will occur at the end of February and it will be completed in mid-July. The mission will follow a new route, which will lead to Djibouti, Madagascar, South Africa and South and North America.
The project is supported by other associations, such as the Association of the members of the Order of Academic Palms (Amopa) and the Association for the international distribution of books and magazines (Adiflor).
Finally, the project cooperates with 6 schools of Lyon, whose students will exchange correspondence with groups of young people from the countries visited.
