As 22nd of May marks the National Maritime Day, the American Association of Port Authorities called all vessels berthed at all American ports to sound their horns at 1200 hours local time.
In fact, every year on May 22, United States celebrates National Maritime Day in an effort to recognize the Maritime industry and those who work in it.
As businesses around the world begin the process of re-opening and people cautiously venture outside their homes, please remember that port workers and their logistics partners are laboring around the clock to keep us all supplied with vital consumer goods, medical equipment, energy and raw materials.
…as Chris Connor, AAPA president and CEO said.
What is more, the “Sound Off for National Maritime Day” event focuses on the COVID-19 outbreak response and recovery effort, recognizing the efforts made by seafarers and port workers to slow down the spread of the disease and ensure a steady flow of vital goods and services.
When you hear ships and other vessels sounding their horns or whistles at noon each day from Monday, May 18th to National Maritime Day on May 22nd, please consider the role ports play in your life, your community and the economy.
…Mr. Connor concluded.
