Swiss Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is interested in buying a share in Medcenter Container Terminal from Italian terminal operator Contship Italia. Both parties have been negotiating for the transaction of Contship Italia’s 50% shares in CSM Italia Gate, the company that controls MCT, which is the concessionaire of the container terminal activities in the port of Gioia Tauro where MSC is already a partner and the customer.
In order to rapidly finalize the deal, Contship Italia reported that it appointed a law firm to assist the process as well as an independent financial advisor, who has been given the task of expressing the correct value of the terminal activity and assets.
Along with the negotiations, Medcenter Container Terminal will keep on being fully operational.
In light of the negotiations, Contship stated
Contship Italia Group, which started and has been running the terminal for over 24 years, is fully committed to safeguard the employment levels, so as to preserve the value and competitiveness of the largest Italian container terminal.
