The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) informed that it was monitoring the cargo ship MSC Kim, which was adrift with engine problems off Port au Port Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Coast Guard informed that there are no injuries or pollution reported, while the CCGS Terry Fox is icebreaking to assist a tow vessel out of Stephenville harbour.
Moreover, environmental response specialists are in contact with the owner to ensure they have a response plan in place in the event that pollution would occur.
After the incident CCG noted that it would continue to monitor the MSC Kim and the tow vessel until any threat to the environment has passed.
In the most recent development, CCG informed that the MSC Kim is no longer adrift, after the Atlantic Kingfisher successfully secured a towline.
Marine Communications and Traffic Services officers are maintaining contact with the vessels as they proceed toward Sydney, Nova Scotia to inform them on the situation.
