Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) currently commands a staggering 20% global container market share, with its fleet expected to keep expanding.
As informed, MSC is also poised to become the first carrier with a fleet exceeding 6 million TEU, needing just one more megamax vessel delivery. Since its inception in 1970, MSC has grown remarkably, doubling its fleet capacity multiple times over recent decades.
Analysts at Alphaliner project that by early 2025, MSC’s market share will rival the combined share of Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, even as these companies will launch the Gemini Cooperation alliance in February 2025.
The Gemini Cooperation between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd is a strategic response to MSC’s dominance, aiming to enhance operational efficiencies and service offerings. However, MSC’s vast fleet and diversified business model provide a formidable competitive advantage.
MSC’s growth is not limited to its fleet size. The company has diversified significantly, investing in various sectors. This diversification has fortified MSC’s market position and provided resilience against market fluctuations.
