Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and The Kansai Electric Power Company (KEPCO) have announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a joint study on the development of a liquefied hydrogen carrier.
Under the MoU, MOL and KEPCO will collaborate to conduct an in-depth analysis of the optimal vessels and operational strategies within the liquefied hydrogen supply chain, as well as the safety standards for these vessels. They will also examine international laws and regulations governing the marine transport of liquefied hydrogen.
This marks the first such agreement in Japan between a shipping company and a power generation company focused on the marine transport of liquefied hydrogen, a crucial component in establishing a hydrogen fuel supply chain.
As informed, both companies are committed to furthering the study of liquefied hydrogen marine transport, aiming to contribute to the creation of a hydrogen supply chain and the achievement of a zero-carbon society.
