On June 15, a guided missile fired by Houthi militias attacked an Emirati ship, when she was upon its departure from the Yemeni port of Mukha, according to the Saudi press agency. The missile caused no damage to the ship, but resulted in the injury of one crew member.
The attack was a result of the conflict between the Iran-aligned Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, for the restoration of the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
The Command of Coalition for Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen called on the international community to pressure Houthi rebels and ousted Saleh’s forces, to implement United Nations Security Council resolutions 2216, in order to prevent these practices.
In this context, he renewed its warning that Al-Houthi militias’ continuing practices of arms and ammunition smuggling activities into Yemeni territories affect the security of navigation in this vital part of the world. According to Reuters, several such attacks were reported since last year against Saudi, Emirati and U.S. ships in the Red Sea.
The Command also confirmed in a statement that a thorough follow-up of the incident is being carried and tracking down its perpetrators.
