Methanol bunkering seems to be coming to Singapore sooner than thought, following the announcement by Singapore-licensed marine fuel supplier Golden Island Diesel Oil Trading that will bring a methanol bunker supply operation in the area by 2026.
According to Manifold Times, without disclosing the names of the other companies, the company has found two partners to help set up the operation.
“We plan to build our methanol bunker barge at about 8,000-12,000 DWT. We’re looking for green methanol, but if we cannot get it, we’ll supply grey methanol at first.” , commented Johnny Tan, managing director of Golden Island.
The methanol will be supplied by one of the firm’s operation partners from the Middle East or Asia. Golden Island would be among the first to bring methanol bunker supply to Singapore’s waters.
Last October, Maersk had announced its plans to carry out a trial bunkering of methanol in Singapore in the first half of 2023.
