Malaysia’s largest port operator, Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd, announced it is upgrading its terminal operating system, as a part of its smart operations to boost exports for Malaysian companies.
The port operator rolled out on July 11 its upgraded American terminal operating system Navis N4, which is being used by more than 340 container terminals in over 80 countries.
By investing in the latest technology, we are further establishing our terminal as one of the best equipped and most technologically-advanced container terminal in the region,
…commercial division head Prakash Thurairasasingam told The Star.
Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas has one of the largest container storage facilities in the region, with capacity to handle up to 12.5 million TEUs annually.
The port has shed its efforts in the last months amid a transition to Industry 4.0, to become an advanced preferred port in the region.
Recent initiatives include the integration of the vessel traffic monitoring information system in the port’s marine control system, the installation of access control and CCTV to further strengthen port security, as well as a replacement of diesel-based rubber tyred gantry cranes (RTG) to electric.
Additionally, the Port Operator has signed a MoU with Terberg Tractors Malaysia to develop a comprehensive study on the viability of deploying autonomous driving terminal tractors to transfer containers within the terminal area.
Earlier in this week, the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) became the first port in Southeast Asia to welcome Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) latest and largest container vessel as part of its maiden voyage in the South East Asia region.
In June, PTP also became the first port in the world to achieve back to back record for highest utilisation of a container vessel when the container ship ‘Monaco Maersk’ left the port with the record load of 19,574 TEUs.
