In January, Maersk Tankers announced a new parental leave policy for their employees, enabling fathers with a paid four-week paternity leave; Nautilus now clarifies that the new policy concerns only the onshore crew of the company and not the crew onboard.
Specifically, Nautilus noted that seafarers employed by Maersk Tankers are excluded from the company’s new Parental Leave policy.
Contacting with a company’s spokesperson, Nautilus revealed that the policy is applicable to shore employees only.
Also, Maersk Tankers’ announcement informed that the leave is mandatory and must be taken within the first year after the child is born.
Prakash Thangachan, Chief Human Resources Officer at Maersk Tankers commented that
We want to provide a work environment that ensures well-being and in which employees can realise their full potential; this includes giving them the flexibility needed to fulfil their roles as both employees and parents.
Concluding, the company’s decision aims to a more equal distribution of parental leave between mothers and fathers.
