Two LNG carriers were moored at the same time
On Saturday 14 December, something unique happened at the Gate terminal in Rotterdam. For the first time, two LNG carriers were moored at the same time in the Nijlhaven. The presence of the Ben Badis and Arctic Aurora is representative of a striking recovery in LNG throughput in Rotterdam.
Due to the massive demand for LNG in Southeast Asia and Japan, LNG throughput was low in the port of Rotterdam in the first half of 2013. However, throughput has really picked up in the past few months. The Port Authority expects figures to close 25% higher this year than in 2012. However 0.7 million tonnes is not even 0.25% of total throughput in the port of Rotterdam.
On Thursday 19 December, the Port Authority will present the expected throughput figures for the port of Rotterdam.
