The Society for Gas as Marine Fuel (SGMF) issued a report providing technical guidance and recommendations for the safe handling and operation of hose bunker systems utilizing cryogenic flexible hoses as the main way of LNG transfer.
The increased use of LNG within the shipping industry and the development of regulatory framework for safe gas handling and operations has increase the industry’s demand for guidance on the safe handling and operation of bunkering equipment used for LNG transfer between a gas fuel supplier and a receiver.
The report states that although each bunker facility and gas-fuelled vessel will need to develop its own specific procedures, the recommendations provided in the report will assist standardization of operations, ensuring efficiency and flexibility of supply, as well as the utmost safety.
The Society highlights that the intention of this report is to address the requirements for safe handling and operation of hose bunkering systems, its considerations and recommendations can also serve suppliers and manufacturers of bunkering equipment and systems.
