Lemissoler Navigation has placed an order for up to eight methanol dual-fuel 65,000 dwt bulk carriers to be constructed in China.
On May 17, 2024, Lemissoler signed a contract with China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding and China Shipbuilding Industry Trading for the construction of these vessels, divided into an initial order of four ships with an option for four more.
This order represents a significant milestone as it is the first instance of methanol dual-fuel 65,000 dwt bulk carriers being built in China. The vessels, designed by the Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute, will measure 199.9 meters in length, with a beam of 32.26 meters and a depth of 19 meters. They will be outfitted with two 1,200 cbm methanol fuel tanks.
To remind, Lemissoler Navigation Ltd. and Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI) have received ABS approval in principle (AIP) for the design of a 65K DWT methanol-fueled ultramax bulk carrier, the first such methanol vessel for China’s shipbuilding industry.
