The Korean Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Australian government for the establishment of a Korea-Australia green shipping route.
As announced, through this MoU, Korea and Australia will pursue cooperation in various areas including the establishment of green shipping routes, jointly responding to green shipping-related issues at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as well as promoting the creation and use of an eco-friendly fuel supply environment.
In addition, the two countries also pledged to facilitate exchanges among related organizations.
Starting in the first half of this year, Korea and Australia will begin the process of establishing green shipping routes between the two countries, including conducting a preliminary feasibility study on green shipping routes between major ports.
Establishing a green shipping route is the most effective means to achieve carbon neutrality in shipping. I hope that through the signing of this MoU, the two countries will strengthen cooperation so that a green shipping route connecting Korea and Australia can be successfully established.
