In efforts of improving shipping operations and customer services, KONGSBERG and DNV GL inked an agreement to assist the customers of the former share their data for use in the latter’s digital class and assurance services.
Specifically, both partners aim to reduce time, costs and complexity, which has been traditionally linked with class and assurance services for the maritime sector.
KONGSBERG will use its data infrastructure solution for the maritime sector, Vessel Insight, for the collection and then transfer of data from vessels to DNV GL, which will enable DNV GL to perform digital class and assurance services.

However, we can now perform some surveys by analyzing digitally obtained data on shore. By enabling customers to share their data via KONGSBERG’s Vessel Insight, we can expand the amount of data we are able to access and offer even more class and assurance services digitally. This will help customers not only to reduce their costs, but streamline their daily operations.
The two partners have a history of collaboration, as in 2017 they announced the development of a new type approval programme for the cyber security assessment of control system components, focusing on verifying both the technical reliability and cyber security of control systems.
Concluding, in late 2019, Kongsberg and DNV GL joined forces to provide the shipping industry with digital solutions and options, to optimize performance and allow customers conduct more secure and sustainable operations.
