The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) joined forces to rescue 12 crew members from the Indian merchant vessel MSV Al Piranpir, which sank on 4 December in the Arabian Sea during its voyage from Porbandar, Gujarat, to Bandar Abbas, Iran.
The vessel encountered rough seas leading to its sinking outside Indian waters but within Pakistan’s search and rescue region. The rescue operation was initiated when the Indian Coast Guard’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai received a distress call and promptly alerted the ICG’s regional headquarters in Gandhinagar.
In response, the ICG coordinated closely with the PMSA, demonstrating seamless communication between the two nations’ maritime rescue coordination centers throughout the operation. The PMSA deployed an aircraft, and the merchant ship MV Cosco Glory provided critical support in rescuing the crew.
All 12 crew members were successfully saved and transported for medical checkups.
