In an effort to boost safety and efficiency within its operations, India’s premier container port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) upgraded its navigation and vessel maneuvering technology.
According to JNPT, the upgrade is considered to give a major push to the ports training abilities and superior training outcomes for the pilots.
This enhancement ship maneuvering simulator will ensure availability of latest modules and features to augment JNPT’s training capabilities and ensure superior training outcomes for the pilots.
For the records, the setup of the simulator was reviewed by Shri Sanjay Sethi, IAS, Chairman, JNPT and Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Deputy Chairman, JNPT.
The upgrades made to the physical simulator infrastructure, will further allow training for various emergency scenarios.
Pilots will be able to perform berthing operations in a more ship like environment where they can assess vessel movement not only from the wheel house, but also position themselves on the wings whilst the
vessel is brought alongside, JNPT noted.
These measures will help the port to be at par with technologically advanced global ports augmenting JNPT’s stature to be among the leading container ports in the world.
