Port of Nagoya, stopped the container operations, after a ransomware attack on its systems. According to Japanese media, a hacker group based in Russia has attacked the Port.
In particular, the attack was discovered around 6:30 a.m. on 4th July, when workers attempted to boot the computer systems at the port.
Then, a message indicating that the computer system had been infected with ransomware was somehow sent to a printer, a source familiar with the case said.
As explained, port officials issued an announcement initially saying that they would restore the systems by 18:00 but later delayed it by two hours to 20:00 on 5th July.
To remind, last Christmas, hackers broke into the computer systems at Portugal’s Port of Lisbon, holding up operations for days. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, India’s busiest container port, also suffered a ransomware attack last year.
In 2021, South Africa’s port and rail company was targeted with a strain of ransomware that cybersecurity experts have linked to groups in Eastern Europe and Russia.
News pictures showed trucks lined up on the streets outside the port gates. Port officials said the gates would remain closed until the systems were operating, but they were permitting the loading and unloading of containerships by the prime contractor.
