A collision took place on March 30 in the East China Sea, east of Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, involving a Chinese fishing boat and a Japanese warship.
The collision damaged the Chinese fishing boat and caused lower back injury in one fisherman. As for the Japanese warship, it received damage to its port side. Both ships managed to sail under their own power afterwards.
China Coast Guard is currently on site, while the .cause of the collision is under investigation.
Commenting on the incident, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying, said:
I want to point out that the collision occurred in the coastal waters of China. The Chinese side has expressed concern to the Japanese side over the Japanese SDF warship sailing in the relevant waters and endangering the safety of the Chinese vessel
However, China is in communication with the Japanese side, in order to determine the cause as soon as possible and ‘prevent such incidents from happening again.’
For its side, the Japanese defense ministry said it would cooperate with the Japanese coast guard’s investigation.
