The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) presented a new portal called LADIS – Least Available Depth Information System to optimize the National Waterways. LADIS will ensure the real-time data on least available depths is disseminated for ship/barge and cargo owners so that they can undertake transportation on NWs in a more planned way.
Specifically, real-time data will enable transporters sail safely and on the suitability of time of movement.
The portal is hosted on IWAI’s website has been developed in-house.

The LAD information will be available for NW-1, NW-2, Indo-Bagladesh Protocol route and NW-3, along with the date of survey.
The System will facilitate everyday operations of inland vessels and will avoid traffic in service and operation.
Moreover, it will improve the credibility and efficiency of information sharing to achieve operations on National Waterways, besides pre-empting challenges that may take place during movement of vessels.
Finally, the Indian Government stated that vessel operators and cargo owners will manage their sailing plans strictly as per applicable waterways related information.
