The Maritime Transport Workers’ Trade Union of Ukraine (MTWTU) launched the campaign #ISupplyTheWorld, supported by the International Transport Worker’s Federation (ITF) and IMEC, recognizing the important contribution of the global maritime transport workers to the well functioning of the worldwide maritime shipping, through these challenging times.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a serious challenge for the whole shipping industry, but mostly for the seafarers who have been facing the barriers of port restrictions, signing off and the uncertainty of what will follow.
Thus, expressing his support and recognition to the seafarers, MTWTU’s first vice chair, Oleg Grigoryuk commented that
It’s crucial to show how global maritime transport workers are at the forefront of the epidemic in terms of global trade, how greatly the international community appreciates their labour and how important their job is for every each city, each family and each person in the world.
In the meantime, the MTWTU calls maritime workers to photograph themselves with a campaign poster and post on social media with the hashtag #ISupplyTheWorld.
