USCG: Guidelines for transport of hazardous liquid substances on Offshore Support Vessels

ISM Code guidelines establish basic principles for verifying that the SMS of a Company responsible for the operation of ships or the SMS for the ship or ships controlled by the company complies with the ISM Code; and for the conduct of verifications to issue the DoC and SMC. The Guidelines are applicable to Administrations.

3ISM Guidance: Guidelines for the operational implementation of the ISM Code by Companies (MSC-MEPC.7/Circ.5)

 

New guidelines to assist Companies in effective and efficient operational implementation of the ISM Code. In this context, the Committee recognized that to support and encourage the development of a safety culture and to strengthen the operational implementation of the ISM Code the following elements should be given particular attention:

.1 internal audits;

.2 SMS review/assessment by the Company and master;

.3 reporting and analysing of non-conformities, accidents and hazardous occurrences; and

.4 persons performing internal audits and internal system reviews.

4ISM Guidance: Experience, Qualifications and Training for the role of Designated Person under the ISM Code (MSC-MEPC.7/Circ.6)

The MSC expressed concern that given the importance of the ISM Code, the experience, qualifications and training of the Designated Person (DP) sometimes do not commensurate with the key role the DP plays. Hence, the MSC approved a joint MSC-MEPC.7 circular on Guidelines on qualifications, training and experience necessary for undertaking the role of the DP under the provisions of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.

These Guidelines, prepared by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), contain guidance to assist in the preparation of an integrated system of contingency planning for shipboard emergencies. It is intended to be used for the preparation and use of a module structure of an integrated system of shipboard emergency plans.
