Ireland rejected the proposal by Dublin to house some of the city’s homeless people on a cruise ship, in an attempt to mitigate a severe housing shortage. The Irish government rejected the proposal as ‘unsuitable’.
The city wanted to house up to 150 homeless people on a cruise ship, to get them off the streets, however this would not be ideal for homeless families, Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy noted.

Namely, the cruise ship solution was suggested when the city could not house homeless males, Reuters reports. But since then the situation is different and a ship would not be suitable to house families.
The government is now considering other solutions to this problem, but says that it is not ruling out the cruise ship as an emergency plan.
According to the latest figures, there are almost 10,000 people in emergency accommodation at the end of August in Ireland. This made thousands of people march to the Irish parliament earlier this week protest for the increase in rental costs.
