According to news, Iranian forces have detained two ships in the Persian Gulf and arrested their crew for allegedly carrying smuggled oil.
Iran frequently stops ships in the Persian Gulf, where it accuses a number of them of smuggling oil goods. However, 1.5 million litres of petroleum were reportedly aboard the two ships they intercepted earlier this week.
As informed, the vessels was the Steven registered in Panama and the Kron registered in Tanzania.
According to reports, a total of 37 crew members were detained, and the ships were brought to the port of Mahshahr.
After several incidents, including the seizure of two tankers, earlier in the year, the U.S. and UK responded by increasing patrols and monitoring efforts in the Persian Gulf. The joint military command however has repeated its cautions and warned ships to stay away from Iranian waters.
As explained, a chemical tanker was seized in July on suspicion of oil smuggling, just one day after Iran attempted to detain two tankers in the Gulf of Oman.
