Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the accident involving the MV Dayang Topaz vessel, which came into contact with platform structures at the Baram field, 14 nautical miles off Miri, on October 27.
According to Petronas a thorough assessment of the platform structures is being carried out. Th company added that it is committed to undertaking all the necessary measures to make sure that the platform structures remain safe and secure.
Preliminary investigations by Petronas showed that the incident did not cause any impact to the environment. Currently, Petronas works with the relevant authorities to monitor the situation and carry out further assessments to ensure any eventuality was addressed swiftly.
During the incident, the ship made contact with platform structures after its anchor wire gave way during adverse weather.
The vessel was conducting operational work at the Baram platform for Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd. In total, there were 187 personnel on board the Dayang Topaz at the time of the accident.
