InterManager announced launch of the ‘Maritime Champions League’, a website to recognize the efforts of the seafaring community, and to be a place where ship managers share their successful crew repatriation achievements.
The initiative by the international trade association for ship and crew managers seeks to recognize shipping companies which continue to be innovative to overcome seemingly impassable barriers brought by COVID-19 crisis.
Some ship managers are making huge strides, and some have only changed the circumstances of a handful of seafarers, but every little helps. InterManager believes that we need to reward those who – instead of simply talking – have rolled up their sleeves and immediately started working to find ways of repatriating their sea staff and seafarers,
…said Capt. Kuba Szymanski, Secretary General of InterManager.
As explained, the Maritime Champions League table will detail the nationalities of those who have been relieved. In this way, it will show the efforts of national administrations and their willingness to cooperate, serving as an inspiration for those who are still in the planning phase.
As such, this table aims to serve as a clear message to all industry stakeholders that the maritime industry has not forgotten their seafarers.
It is hoped that this will serve as an inspiration for those who are still dragging their heels, and provide the seafaring community with much-needed peace of mind that they have the support of the entire industry behind them,
…noted Capt. Szymanski.
The League table is on the InterManager website.
Earlier in May, IMO Secretary General stressed the importance of crew changeovers in order for trade flow to continue, despite the challenges arising by the COVID-19 crisis.
Several international associations and organizations, including INTERCARGO, Nautilus International and ITF, have recently vowed for a fairer treatment to seafarers amid this unprecedented situation.
