Issued by BIMCO, ICS, INTERCARGO, INTERTANKO
The London P&I Club has recently posted on its website a news alert reminding for the Interim Guidelines against piracy as follows:
In response to the recent increase in the level of attacks against shipping, industry organisations (including BIMCO, ICS, INTERCARGO and INTERTANKO) have issued Interim Guidelines for Owners, Operators and Masters for protection against piracy in the Gulf of Guinea region.
A copy of these Interim Guidelines can be accessed here. They make the point that large sections of the Best Management Practices (BMP), already developed to protect against such piracy off Somalia, will also be valid in the Gulf of Guinea region. The Interim Guidelines should therefore be read in conjunction with the advice contained in BMP 4, which can be accessed here.
The position in the Gulf of Guinea is continuing to evolve and, accordingly, it is anticipated that the Interim Guidelines will be subject to updating and revision, as and when required.
