In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, India started to ease the backlog of ships and containers that had congested in its ports due to the outbreak. Specifically, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and the Port of Chennai informed that are operational and begging to return to normal.

JNPort continues to be functional without congestion. Port has sufficient storage capacity and has been efficiently handling containers despite COVID-19 outbreak as it falls within the ambit of essential services.
At the same time, the Indian Shipping Ministry informed that keeps monitoring the coronavirus situation and has raised its forces to further support the region’s shipping sector.
Namely, the country’s Shipping Ministry has set the above safety measures in order to reduce the spread of a possible infection in its ports.
