V. O. Chidambaranar Port announced plans to be the first in India to establish green methanol bunkering infrastructure through a pilot-scale project for decarbonisation.
V. O. Chidambaranar Port Trust has launched India’s first pilot-scale project for port decarbonisation.
In collaboration with the V. O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, RINA conducted an extensive evaluation of various alternative fuel options. The RINA analysis included green hydrogen, green ammonia, green methane, and green methanol. After thorough consideration, green methanol emerged as the most viable solution for the port’s decarbonisation plan through 2030.
Moreover, the project recently reached a milestone with the approval of its Detailed Project Report (DPR) by the Mission Director, as well as approval from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways in India and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
With this endorsement, the project now advances to the implementation stage, making the port the first in India to establish green methanol bunkering infrastructure.
